Mission:
be followers
Vision:
followers connected to Christ and with others
Goals:
1. Glorify God
2. the kingdom of God connected
Who is behind Faithbook?
Summit Internet Ministries. Faithbook is owned and operated by Summit Internet Ministries, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that is committed to using the internet and communication technology to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Who leads the ministry?
A disciple-making missionary.
Currently, SIMS’ founder and original visionary is the only staff working on Faithbook and for SIMS. He is a seminary graduate who is currently working full-time at a college, is a Ph.D student, and who directs an extremely talented 3rd party group of web developers.
What is Faithbook about?
Faithbook is about being and making followers of Jesus Christ.
Why did you create Faithbook?
To create a Christian resource that encourages spiritual growth and the making of disciples.
In this two-fold goal, we hope to offer Christians a virtual resource that will help people not only discover Christ in authentic Christian community, but to also grow in Christ-likeness. We believe in the power of virtual tools to foster authentic Christian community and connections and believe that the inter-connected Christian community can be a powerful witness. And rather than just ask everyone to come to us, we are doing our best to go to where other people are. We work hard to find ways to integrate with popular technological tools of our day. While we will never achieve a perfect tool, we are using the resources that God blesses us with to do our best to encourage Christian growth and outreach in a digital age.
What are your plans and goals for Faithbook in terms of development?
Our ultimate goal is for you to be able to access and use “Faithbook” where you already are. Our vision is to create a Christian resource that is fully integrated into the public tools you already use. Building a stand-alone website (www.faithbook.tv) is the first essential element (a backbone of sorts) before that can happen. However, our larger hope is that you will actually use these resources inside Facebook via a Facebook app and through iPhone and other mobile applications. We actually think it will be easier and more intuitive once we have the Facebook app completed, but the good part is you can chose wherever works best for you. Quite frankly, if you only used the app inside Facebook or the Facebook fan page, that would be great! And with the website, we’ve tried to do our best to integrate with Facebook’s open graph as much as possible. The Church already suffers too much from a “come to us” mindset rather than a “go and tell” mentality. So, we work and strive hard to translate a Missional “go and tell” (or a go and share) mindset into the digital age in which we live.
Who is Faithbook for?
Faithbook is primarily for Christian use. The site centers on Jesus Christ and the Christian faith. However, all are welcome to come and freely explore their faith and spiritual life.
Is Faithbook for-profit or non-profit?
Nonprofit. Faithbook is owned and operated by a 501c3 nonprofit organization called Summit Internet Ministries.
What are your future development plans?
Short Term: (things currently in the works)
--Facebook app
--iPhone and Droid apps
--Finish all the “coming soon” stuff (i.e., custom design and functions for church, community, Bible, etc. features)
--Faithbook LIVE
--develop help section
Mid Term:
--hire our first full-time staff member and other staff (currently no full-time staff)
Long Term:
--Church plants (both virtual and face to face)
--Networking to unite Christians in new service opportunities
--Many of the other exciting missions and ministry opportunities that SIMS already has a vision for!!!
Can you develop faster?
Yes, we can. Prior to this announcement, we haven’t really told a lot of people who we are or what we’re about. But we want to be more open about who we are and what we do. So, yes, if we had additional partners, donations, and resources, Faithbook could develop much faster and much better. We would ask that you prayerfully consider how you can partner with us to help further our global mission and the cause of Jesus Christ.
How can I partner with you?
Whether you are a group (a church, a parachurch organization, or just a Bible study group) or just an individual with some time, talent, and resources, you can make a vital difference in the life of this ministry! Please email us at info@faithbook.tv to tell us more about who you are and let’s partner together for the cause of Christ!
